Josh Inglis Uncertain of Batting Position as Australia Rebuilds for West Indies Tour

2 min read

Josh Inglis remains unsure where he will bat in Australia’s revamped line-up as the team prepares to face the West Indies for the first time in a decade. After shining with a century on debut in Sri Lanka earlier this year, Inglis was sidelined for the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.

Following Australia’s surprising loss to South Africa, and with Marnus Labuschagne’s ongoing struggles and Steve Smith suffering a dislocated finger, selectors brought Inglis and young all-rounder Sam Konstas into the squad for the first Test in Barbados.

Inglis previously batted at number five during his two Tests in Galle, with Travis Head opening the batting as he often does in Asia. However, with Konstas likely to partner veteran opener Usman Khawaja at the top, Inglis may be asked to bat at number three. This shift would allow Cameron Green, who struggled in his last Test at number three after returning from back surgery, to move down to number four, filling the spot left vacant by Smith’s injury.

Green scored just 4 and 0 in his return at number three in the World Test Championship final, struggling with the role. Inglis, meanwhile, is unfazed by where he bats, citing his experience moving around in first-class cricket for Western Australia and in international white-ball matches.
