In the world of cricket, naming series after legendary players is a cherished tradition that honors the rich heritage of the sport. From the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to the Worn-Muralitharan Trophy, these names evoke memories of cricketing greatness. Now, a new milestone has been added to this illustrious list, marking a significant achievement in Test cricket history.

At Nottingham, Joe Root made a remarkable mark by reaching a historic milestone with his bat. Before stepping onto the crease, he needed just 28 runs to hit 13,000 Test runs. He achieved the feat in just 80 overs with a single run, breaking a record previously held by South African legend Jacques Kallis, who reached 13,000 runs in his 159th Test.

Root now enters an elite club by accomplishing this milestone in his 156th Test, placing him fifth on the list of fastest players to reach 13,000 runs in Test cricket. Ahead of him are Rahul Dravid (160 matches), Ricky Ponting (162), Sachin Tendulkar (163), and Jacques Kallis (159). Though, in terms of innings, Root is behind Tendulkar achieved this in just 266 innings.

This achievement is not only a new chapter in Test history but also an extraordinary milestone in global cricket. His recent innings was a brisk 44-ball 34, during which he was dismissed caught off Richard Ngarava.

Undoubtedly, this record elevates Root to new heights. He is now the fifth-highest run-scorer among Test batsmen. He has scored over 2,000 runs against powerhouses like Australia and India, and his performances include remarkable feats against teams from New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.

This milestone cements Joe Root’s place among cricket’s all-time greats and highlights his consistency and resilience across some of the world’s toughest cricketing battlegrounds.
