A Japanese military training plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Wednesday, with reports indicating that two people were on board. The aircraft, a T-4 belonging to the Air Self-Defense Force, fell into Lake Iruka near Inuyama city, north of Nagoya.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi confirmed the incident, stating, “We’re aware a T-4 plane that belongs to the Air Self-Defense Force fell down immediately after taking off at Komaki Air Base.” The defense ministry is currently investigating the details of the crash.
The T-4 is a domestically produced training aircraft, known for its reliability and maintainability, and is used for basic flight courses. The aircraft was flying around Lake Iruka when it disappeared from radar.
Local fire department official Hajime Nakamura reported that an aerial survey by an Aichi region helicopter found a spot where oil was floating on the surface of the lake, suggesting the location of the crash. Aerial footage broadcast by NHK showed an oil sheen on the lake’s surface, along with various pieces of debris.
The fire department received a call just after 3:00 PM (0600 GMT) indicating that a plane had crashed into the lake. While there is no sight of the plane yet, unconfirmed information suggests that two people were on board. The defense ministry has not been able to immediately confirm these details.
Fortunately, there has been no reported damage to houses in the area
