Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir will be banned by Wednesday, July 31, as per the government order.

Law Minister Anisul Huq confirmed the information to the media at his secretariat on Tuesday afternoon. The law minister also said he would consult with the home minister to decide the implementation process of the decision.

Earlier on Monday, leaders of the 14-party alliance led by the Awami League strongly recommended banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir for their involvement in anti-national activities. Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters after leaving the meeting that leaders of the 14 parties had decided to ban the Jamaat-e-Shibir policy during their meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Leaders of the 14-party alliance met Awami League president Sheikh Hasina at her Ganabhaban residence on Monday as part of the quota reform drive.
