With the 13th National Election fast approaching, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and the party’s candidates are actively dominating the campaign field, rolling out bold promises aimed at surprising and energising voters. Their message is clear: this election is not just about votes, but about reshaping the state itself.
Jamaat will formally announce its election manifesto on Wednesday, February 4, branding it the “People’s Manifesto.” The launch event will take place in the evening at Hotel Sheraton in Banani, Dhaka. According to party sources, the ceremony will be attended by Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, senior Jamaat leaders, foreign representatives, ambassadors, high commissioners, diplomats, and notable figures from various sectors.
Leaders involved in drafting the manifesto say it is designed not as a collection of election-season promises, but as a comprehensive roadmap for national reform. Discussions with the party’s policymakers and experts suggest that this year’s manifesto focuses on rights, fairness, and practical implementation rather than emotional appeals.
The manifesto is expected to include commitments to fight corruption, strengthen ethical governance, and drive institutional reform. Jamaat plans to offer loans and employment opportunities for unemployed youth, ensure dignity and safety for women, and guarantee farmers fair prices by replacing subsidies with direct government supply of essential fertiliser, oilseeds, and other inputs.
Business owners may also find surprising pledges in the document. The party aims to avoid raising taxes, instead improving collection of existing taxes, while ensuring uninterrupted supplies of fuel, gas, and electricity for the public.
