The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), a prominent private university, is gaining recognition not only within Bangladesh but also globally, thanks to the achievements of its alumni. Recently, IUB alumni in Sydney reunited under one roof to share memories, celebrate their success, and set new aspirations.

On October 20, 2024, IUB alumni gathered for a vibrant reunion at the Indrani Function Centre in Rockdale, Sydney. Themed “In Anticipation of a New Dawn,” the event was organized under the banner of Ex IUBians Australia Association Inc., bringing together former students of IUB residing in Australia along with their families. Prominent figures from various social and professional organizations also attended to join in the celebration.

The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran and tributes to the national anthems of Australia and Bangladesh. Lion Elias Chowdhury, an advisor for Ex IUBians Australia Association Inc., delivered a heartfelt welcome address, emphasizing the value of community connections.

The chief guest, Dr. Moinul Islam, president of the Sydney Shapla Shaluk Lions Club, praised the initiative as a meaningful effort to strengthen ties among expatriates. Former councilor Shahe Zaman Titu also acknowledged the event’s success. Adding a special touch, Sharmin Islam, Assistant Director of Independent University, Bangladesh, sent her greetings via a video message from Bangladesh.

One of the most emotional moments of the evening was a tribute to Asif Iqbal, an IUB student who lost his life during a student movement in Bangladesh. His sacrifice was honored by the alumni, a poignant reminder of the courage and dedication displayed by young activists.

The event was hosted by Asif Iqbal, a former presenter from BTV, and included a captivating cultural segment featuring popular singers and dancers from Sydney. The audience was thrilled by a special appearance from celebrated Bangladeshi actor Maznun Mizan.

A major highlight of the evening was the performances by Sydney-based bands ‘Jolforing’ and ‘Charu.’ Their lively performances energized the crowd and made the reunion truly memorable.

The event’s success was ensured by the dedication of former students Arman, Tareq, Mashrul, and Babu, along with other executive committee members. Dream Key Realty, a real estate company, played a significant role as the main sponsor, helping make the gathering possible.

Overall, the reunion was a beautiful blend of nostalgia, camaraderie, and cultural pride, showcasing the power of community bonds, regardless of location. The event not only strengthened ties among alumni but also reminded everyone of the importance of shared heritage and a sense of belonging.
