Israeli Foreign Minister Criticizes Low Arrest Numbers After Amsterdam Football Violence

1 min read

Newly appointed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar expressed concerns in Jerusalem over the limited number of arrests following violent clashes in Amsterdam last week.

Saar noted, “The mayor of Amsterdam informed me about a special inquiry team, but the number of arrests remains very low.”

The unrest erupted on Thursday after a football match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax, leaving 20 to 30 Israeli supporters injured. Dutch police reported 62 arrests, as groups responding to online incitement targeted Jewish fans in coordinated attacks. Amsterdam’s mayor confirmed that scooter-riding gangs carried out “hit-and-run” assaults.
