Israel Launches Retaliatory Strikes in Response to Yemen Houthi Attacks

In retaliation for missile and drone attacks carried out by Houthi rebels in Yemen, Israel has conducted counterstrikes, according to Yemen’s Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree. He confirmed that high-speed hypersonic missiles and explosive-laden drones were launched at multiple targets, including Ben Gurion Airport, Ashdod seaport, and a power plant in the southern city of Ashkelon.

Saree claimed that the Houthi forces’ missiles and drones successfully struck their intended targets. “Our weapons have hit the targets effectively, and Israeli interceptors have failed to destroy our missiles and drones,” he asserted.

Early Monday morning, reports emerged that Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had launched attacks on the ports of Hudaydah, Ras Isa, and Sufa in Yemen. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reportedly described the operation as part of ‘Operation Black Flag,’ targeting Houthi positions.

Since the start of the Israeli military operations in Gaza in October 2023, Iran-backed Houthis have intensified attacks on ships in the Red Sea, launching missile, drone, and explosive rocket attacks on numerous vessels. Over a hundred ships have been targeted, with two sinking and four crew members killed in the process.

The Israeli Katzz confirmed that the IDF has initiated ‘Operation Black Flag’ to respond to Houthi assaults in the Red Sea. However, since the strikes, Israeli officials and the Defense Ministry have not issued any official statements regarding the situation.

This ongoing conflict has heightened tensions in the Middle East and increased risks to maritime security. As multiple parties engage in retaliatory strikes, global concern about the escalation of violence and its broader implications continues to grow.
