Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was arrested at Dhaka’s airport on Monday afternoon by the Bangladesh Police’s specialized Detective Branch (DB). He was apprehended while on his way to Chattogram.
Reports indicate that Chinmoy Krishna Das had arrived at the airport with plans to travel to Chattogram. His arrest follows a series of protests held by followers of the Sanatan religion in the country, during which he delivered threatening speeches directed at the government. He gained significant attention during a gathering on October 25 at Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram, where he presented eight demands on behalf of the Sanatan Jagruti Mancha.
During this rally, Chinmoy Krishna Das condemned attacks on Hindu temples and incidents of looting and arson targeting Hindu homes in Bangladesh. However, he himself faces allegations of inciting communal disharmony through provocative speeches.
Chinmoy Krishna Das is a prominent figure within ISKCON and serves as the spokesperson for the Sanatan Jagruti Mancha, where he is also known among followers as Chinmoy Prabhu.
Additionally, on October 30, a case was filed against him and 19 others under the Sedition Act for allegedly disrespecting the national flag. The complaint was lodged by a local individual named Firoz Khan at the Kotwali police station. Following this, two individuals, Rajesh Chowdhury and Hriday Das, were arrested.
In response to Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest, the United Sanatan Jagruti Coalition held a protest march in Chattogram. On Monday evening, the protesters concluded their march with a rally at Cheragi Pahar, demanding his release and labeling the charges against him as politically motivated.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies are scrutinizing the allegations against Chinmoy Krishna Das and his activities.
