A building in the northern United Arab Emirates caught fire after being struck by an Iranian drone, Emirati authorities confirmed on Monday, following a wave of drone and missile attacks across the country. While the strike caused significant flames, officials reported no casualties.
The Umm Al‑Quwain government’s media office said the drone hit the building directly, igniting a fire that local emergency crews managed to bring under control quickly. The state news agency WAM released the statement but did not identify the building or its purpose.
Earlier the same day, a separate Iranian attack forced Dubai International Airport one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs to halt operations for several hours. All take‑offs and landings were suspended, leaving thousands of passengers stranded as authorities implemented emergency safety measures.
In another incident, a missile strike on an oil facility killed one civilian, marking one of the UAE’s most serious losses since the conflict began.
The UAE has been under near‑constant threat since the outbreak of the Iran‑US‑Israel war. According to the Ministry of Defence, since February 28 the country has intercepted more than 1,600 drones and 298 ballistic missiles. Despite these efforts, the intensity of attacks has not diminished, and civilian areas are increasingly at risk.
The escalating situation is deepening the Middle East’s security crisis, with analysts warning that repeated strikes on a strategic nation like the UAE could further destabilise the region.
