Iran Executes Three Convicted Rapists by Hanging

1 min read

Iran has carried out the death sentences of three men convicted of rape in the northern region of the country, according to the judiciary. Local officials confirmed that the executions took place this morning in a prison in Gorgan, a city in the north.

Haidar Asiyabi, the head of Iran’s judiciary, stated that the three men received their sentences after being found guilty of raping three women. International human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, report that Iran considers both murder and rape as capital offenses. Iran ranks as the second-highest executor of death sentences globally after China.

Asiyabi added that the three accused were part of a group involved in the assault. They were quickly apprehended after the crimes. However, he did not provide further details about the accused or the case.

In Iran, executions are typically carried out by hanging in the early morning hours. While most death sentences are executed in prisons, the authorities recently carried out a public hanging of a man earlier this month. The man was condemned for raping and killing a young woman, an incident that sparked widespread outrage across the country.
