IPL Mega Auction: A Historic Milestone in Cricketing History

2 min read

The IPL mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has concluded, with 10 franchises spending a staggering ₹639.15 crore to assemble their core teams for the upcoming two seasons. A total of 182 players were acquired, including 62 international stars.

In a moment that shattered records and made history, Rishabh Pant emerged as the most expensive player in IPL history. Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer secured the second-highest bid. The Lucknow Super Giants acquired Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore, while Punjab Kings signed Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore.

Meanwhile, several prominent cricketers, including Jonny Bairstow, David Warner, and Kane Williamson, went unsold, and there was a noticeable lack of interest in Bangladeshi players.

The excitement of the auction kicked off on the first day, highlighted by 13-year-old Vaibhav Surya Banshi becoming a millionaire, a remarkable achievement for someone so young.

Here’s a look at the star players for each team:

Kolkata Knight Riders:

  • Andre Russell
  • Quinton de Kock

Chennai Super Kings:

  • MS Dhoni
  • Ravindra Jadeja

Delhi Capitals:
