1 min read

An investigation report has been officially submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. The case pertains to allegations of genocide committed during the July-August uprising.

The report was handed over to Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam by the tribunal’s investigation agency coordinator and officials at 10:55 am on Monday. This marks the first official investigation implicating Sheikh Hasina directly in the July genocide. The agency confirmed that evidence has been found indicating Sheikh Hasina issued direct orders related to the atrocities.

Tribunal sources had previously indicated that the investigation report would be submitted the following day against all three individuals. On Friday, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam posted on Facebook that the ICT’s investigation agency was expected to submit its report against Sheikh Hasina on Monday. He stated that once the report is submitted, formal charges would be filed, leading to the initiation of official trial proceedings against the former Prime Minister.

This development marks a significant step in the ongoing pursuit of justice for the atrocities committed during that dark period in Bangladesh’s history.
