International Mother Language Day celebrated in Singapore

Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day-2024 were celebrated in Singapore with great enthusiasm and due solemnity and humble respect. Organized by the Bangladesh High Commission, Singapore, the day was celebrated in various activities throughout the day at the High Commission premises with the participation of expatriate Bangladeshis and various diplomatic missions and institutions located in Singapore.

On Wednesday (February 21) morning, Bangladesh High Commissioner appointed to Singapore started the activities of the day by playing the national anthem and lowering the national flag to half-mast. Later, wreaths were placed at the temporary Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the memory of the language martyrs.

On the occasion of the day, the speech of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh was read out to the guests and expatriate Bangladeshis. An inscription on the Great Martyr’s Day is also displayed. The special discussion organized on the occasion of the day was attended by Bangladeshi expatriates in Singapore, Argentine Ambassador Mauricio and some officials of the High Commission. During this, they discussed in detail the historical context of the day and the significance and usefulness of celebrating International Mother Language Day worldwide.
