The interim government has officially entered its second chapter, with the top priority now being to hold a free and fair national election. This was announced by Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, during a press conference at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday, following a meeting of the Advisory Council chaired by the chief adviser.
For the second time since taking office a year ago, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the advisory council meeting. At the outset, the chief adviser declared that the first chapter of the interim government concluded on August 5, and from that day onward, the government has begun its second chapter.
During the meeting, the chief adviser revealed that his government had sent a letter to the Election Commission on Wednesday, urging the organization of the 13th parliamentary election before Ramadan, which falls in February next year. Alongside the election, he emphasized the importance of continuing the trial of those involved in the July carnage and advancing reform initiatives within this timeframe, added Shafiqul.
Highlighting the government’s achievements, the press secretary stated that since its formation on August 8, 2024, until July 31, 2025, the interim government has made a total of 315 decisions in advisory council meetings. Of these, 247 decisions, constituting 78.41 percent, have already been implemented a record for any government in Bangladesh since independence.
Additionally, 11 reform commissions had made 121 recommendations during this period; of these, 16 have already been implemented, while 85 recommendations are currently under process for execution. The government’s focus remains on ensuring stability, reform, and a transparent electoral process to pave the way for a democratic transition.
