Inter Miami Coach Mascherano Dismisses Rumors of Rift with Messi

1 min read

Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano has denied speculation of a rift with Lionel Messi, insisting that recent reports misinterpreted a simple tactical discussion.

Mascherano, once Messi’s teammate and now his coach, said the exchange on the sidelines was wrongly portrayed as a confrontation. “It came out in the press that he was challenging me, which is complete nonsense,” Mascherano explained. “When the opponent goes two goals ahead, they drop very deep, and it becomes difficult to find space between the defensive lines. That’s what we were talking about on the bench.”

The clarification came as Inter Miami secured a resounding 4-1 victory over New England, a result that confirmed their place in the MLS playoffs. Jordi Alba and Tadeo Allende each scored twice, while Messi, though not on the scoresheet, played a pivotal role by assisting three of the four goals.

The performance underscored that, despite rumors, Messi and Mascherano remain in sync as Inter Miami push forward with their playoff campaign.
