Eighteen Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, were handed over by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to Bangladeshi authorities at the Gangni border checkpoint in Meherpur on Friday night. The group had been released from various Indian prisons after serving sentences for illegal entry and stay.
The handover took place around 10:30 p.m. in the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel, police, and local administration officials. Prior to the transfer, a formal flag meeting was held between BSF and BGB representatives to complete the necessary procedures.
According to Subedar Md Shahabuddin, commander of the BGB outpost at Kazipur border camp, the returnees came from different districts across Bangladesh. He explained that Indian police had gathered them from multiple prisons before transferring them to BSF for repatriation.
