Hong Kong: Hong Kong International Airport is preparing to suspend all passenger flights for 36 hours as the city braces for one of its strongest super typhoons in years.
According to aviation officials, all flights are expected to stop from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Thursday as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches the territory. The move would mark one of the longest airport shutdowns in recent memory, underscoring the severity of the storm threat.
A spokesperson for the Airport Authority Hong Kong said preparations were already underway to safeguard operations and passengers. The Hong Kong Observatory is expected to issue its first precautionary storm signal around midday Monday, with further warnings likely as Ragasa draws closer.
The Civil Aviation Department has not yet commented, but an official announcement confirming the suspension is expected later today.
Meanwhile, Ragasa has already disrupted life in the Philippines. Authorities in Metro Manila and across northern Luzon suspended work and classes on Monday as the storm brought destructive winds and heavy rainfall.
