2 min read

Dhaka has been placed under strict security measures today as the International Crimes Tribunal-1 and the Supreme Court area brace for the verdict in a landmark case against deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two others, accused of crimes against humanity during the July massacre.

From early morning, members of the army, police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have taken up positions at key entry points around the court premises. Pedestrians are being stopped for questioning, with identity cards and bags checked thoroughly. Authorities have raised security to the highest level to prevent any unrest or sabotage.

The tribunal is set to announce its verdict today against Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. Both Hasina and Khan have been declared absconders.

The case has drawn massive global attention. From dawn, local and international media crowded the tribunal, including representatives from Reuters, AP, AFP, Al Jazeera, and BBC World, alongside all major Bangladeshi outlets.

This marks the first time in Bangladesh’s history that a former Prime Minister faces a verdict in a crimes against humanity case-making today’s proceedings a pivotal moment watched closely by the entire world.
