Heroes in the Heat: Firefighters Escape Burnover with Minor Injuries

In a dramatic turn of events on Western Australia’s south coast, a fire crew caught in a burnover while battling a bushfire has emerged with only minor injuries. Three firefighters were hospitalized on Friday afternoon after their truck was engulfed in flames near Esperance, but fortunately, they have since been discharged.

The fire ignited around 2:30 PM at Dalyup, roughly 32 kilometers west of Esperance. Just over an hour later, a volunteer firefighting truck found itself in peril during a burnover incident. The brave crew was promptly taken to Esperance Hospital, where they received treatment for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.

Acting Esperance Shire President Jennifer Obourne expressed her relief at their safe return, stating, “The whole community is constantly kept safe thanks to their ongoing service.”

An Esperance Shire spokesperson echoed this sentiment, emphasizing gratitude for the firefighters’ safety and commending the dedication of the Bush Fire Brigade and Esperance Emergency Support Unit volunteers.

At the height of the emergency, an impressive 17 fire appliances and 51 firefighters were deployed to combat the blaze, which triggered an emergency warning. The community stands united in appreciation for their unwavering commitment in these challenging times.
