Two days of relentless downpour in South Korea have resulted in at least four deaths and prompted more than 1,300 residents to evacuate their homes, officials reported on Thursday.

One person lost their life when a car was buried under soil and concrete after a retaining wall of an overpass collapsed during heavy rain in Osan, located just south of Seoul, on Wednesday. The Interior and Safety Ministry confirmed the incident.

In addition, three other fatalities were recorded separately in the southern regions. Victims were found in a submerged car, a stream, and a flooded basement. Authorities are still investigating whether these deaths directly resulted from the storm.

The heavy rain has led to the evacuation of 1,382 individuals and the cancellation of 46 flights. The ministry also noted that parts of South Chungcheong province experienced up to 420 millimeters, or approximately 16.5 inches, of rainfall since Wednesday.
