Two men were killed, and a pregnant lady was injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which also caused traffic jams around the city.
At approximately 1:40 pm on Thursday, a bus and four automobiles collided on a vital section of Sydney’s motorway network, prompting a significant emergency reaction and causing traffic to snarl up to 12 kilometers away from the incident.
According to police, a car going north swerved into oncoming traffic going south for “some unknown reason,” resulting in a series of crashes.
Both the male driver of the northbound vehicle and the male driver of the other vehicle perished on the spot. Neither has been officially identified yet.
Police say the bus driver was uninjured, and no passengers were on board at the time.
A crime scene has been established and officers attached to the crash investigations unit are investigating.
A motorcyclist who allegedly rode through the crime scene while emergency services were treating people involved in the crash has been arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station.
The bridge remains closed in both directions and motorists have been told to avoid the area and expect delays as the city heads into peak hour. Check www.livetraffic.com for updates.
Trains are still running across the bridge in both directions, but buses will be diverting away from the area and will also be delayed. Anyone with dashcam or information has been urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
