Hamas has indicated a constructive response to a US-brokered ceasefire plan for Gaza, expressing readiness to engage in discussions about implementing the deal. The proposal aims to facilitate the release of hostages and promote negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a “final proposal” for a sixty-day ceasefire in the nearly 21-month-old war between Israel and Hamas. He stated that he expected a reply from both sides within hours.
On its official website, Hamas said, “The Hamas movement has completed its internal consultations as well as discussions with Palestinian factions and forces regarding the latest proposal by the mediators to halt the aggression against our people in Gaza.” The statement added, “The movement has delivered its response to the brotherly mediators, which was characterized by a positive spirit.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is scheduled to meet President Trump in Washington on Monday, has not yet commented publicly on the US proposal. Despite the positive tone from Hamas, the two sides remain far apart in their positions. Netanyahu has reiterated that Hamas must be disarmed, a stance the militant group, believed to be holding around 20 hostages, has so far refused to discuss.
Israeli media cited an official as saying Israel has received Hamas’s response and is currently reviewing it.
