The governing organization of Gaza, Hamas, has explicitly stated that it will not surrender its weapons under any circumstances until the dream of an independent and sovereign Palestine is realized. In a statement issued yesterday, Hamas reaffirmed its stance, emphasizing that their struggle is for the rightful rights of the Palestinian people.
The statement read, “Our fight is for the just rights of Palestinians. As long as the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state is not achieved and Jerusalem is not declared its capital, our armed resistance will continue.”
Since its founding in 1988, Hamas has primarily sought Palestinian independence through armed struggle and has remained committed to this goal despite international pressure. The group’s resistance was also acknowledged following its attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. Since then, Israel has launched a military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in over 60,000 deaths to date.
For some time, various countries and organizations have called for Hamas to disarm and transfer power from Gaza. However, Hamas has reaffirmed its readiness to continue its struggle until the vision of a free Palestine is realized.
