In a decisive move to support the brave souls injured during the July mass uprising, the government has begun distributing health cards that will grant free medical treatment at all public hospitals nationwide. This initiative aims to honor the sacrifices of those who stood firm during the tumultuous days of the uprising and to provide them with essential healthcare support.
Initially, 4,551 July Warriors across 36 districts will receive these health cards. The distribution will be carried out in phases for injured individuals from districts beyond the initial list, ensuring that no affected person is left behind. The process has already been set in motion, with the Health Services Division coordinating the dispatch of cards to district civil surgeons.
According to a directive issued by the health ministry on Sunday, each district’s civil surgeon will submit detailed information about their designated representatives including name, designation, mobile number, and signature to facilitate the smooth collection and distribution of the cards. These representatives will then deliver the cards to the injured warriors at accessible locations within their respective districts.
Among the initial recipients are 112 from Kishorganj, 430 from Narshingdi, 108 from Cumilla, 168 from Chattogram, 106 from Feni, 82 from Barishal, 377 from Dhaka, and many others from across the country. Notable figures include 375 from Gazipur, 432 from Kushtia, and 179 from Mymensingh, with smaller numbers from districts such as Jenaidah, Naogaon, and Joypurhat.
The health division emphasized that the injured warriors are eligible to receive necessary treatment free of cost or with significant discounts through the health card. “The health card serves as an official recognition from the state for their sacrifice and bravery,” the division stated.
Former Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the program at the state guest house Jamuna, underscoring the government’s commitment to honoring the resilience of the July mass uprising’s injured. This initiative reflects a profound acknowledgment of their contribution and a pledge to ensure accessible healthcare for all those affected.
