Actress Gina Carano has reached a settlement in her lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm following her firing from the Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian. Carano was dismissed in 2021 after posting social media messages that drew widespread criticism. One of her posts on Instagram compared being a Republican today to being Jewish during the Holocaust, stating, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children,” according to a Variety report at the time. Disney condemned her comments as “abhorrent and unacceptable,” citing their harmful nature and the denigration of cultural and religious identities.
In 2024, Carano filed a wrongful termination and sex discrimination lawsuit, claiming she was unfairly fired for expressing conservative opinions, while male stars who voiced similar views faced no consequences. She also faced criticism for posts on Twitter (now X), where she mocked mask mandates during COVID-19 and echoed false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
A Lucasfilm spokesperson stated Thursday that Carano “was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect.” The spokesperson added, “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.” No specific details of the settlement were disclosed.
Carano, sharing her thoughts on social media, called the resolution “the best outcome for all parties involved” and expressed gratitude, saying, “I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome.” She thanked Elon Musk for backing her case without asking for anything in return and shared her excitement to “move onto the next chapter.” She concluded by saying, “Yes, I’m smiling,” and expressed her desire to continue her career in the arts.
