Josh Giddey is rewriting the NBA record books, but even his brilliance isn’t enough to drag Chicago back into the play‑off race. The 23‑year‑old Australian guard delivered another masterclass against Cleveland, setting a new national benchmark for assists yet the Bulls still fell short, losing 115–110 after a spirited comeback from 29 points down.
Giddey finished with nine points, six rebounds, 19 assists, a steal and two blocks. His 19 assists are the most ever by an Australian in a single NBA game, surpassing Ben Simmons’s previous record of 17. It’s also the highest assist tally by a Bulls player since Ennis Whatley dropped 21 back in 1985.
Despite his standout season averaging 17.7 points, 8.8 assists and 8.4 rebounds across 47 games injuries and inconsistency have plagued Chicago. The Bulls sit 12th in the East at 28-41, having dropped six of their past 10. With only 12 games left, they trail Charlotte by eight wins for the final play‑in spot, making the road ahead increasingly narrow.
Cleveland, meanwhile, showed their depth and composure. James Harden led all scorers with 36 points, while Evan Mobley added 26 points and 14 rebounds to keep the fourth‑placed Cavaliers firmly in control.
Giddey may be producing career‑best numbers, but unless Chicago finds a late surge, his record‑breaking season may end without a post‑season appearance.
