In a decisive move, German authorities have banned the extremist group “Kingdom of Germany,” conducting nationwide raids and arresting four of its key members. This group is part of the right-wing conspiracy theorist movement “Citizens of the Reich” (“Reichsbuerger”), which denies the legitimacy of the modern German state.
Among those detained was Peter Fitzek, the group’s self-proclaimed “king,” a 59-year-old former chef and karate instructor. Fitzek founded the organization, which claims around 6,000 members. Once dismissed as mere eccentrics, the Reichsbuerger have grown increasingly radicalized, posing a significant security threat.
Hundreds of security personnel searched properties across seven states linked to the group, known in German as “Koenigreich Deutschland.” Over the past decade, the group had established pseudo-state structures, issuing its own currency and identity papers, and even running an insurance scheme for its members.
The interior ministry announced the dissolution of the group, accusing it of “attacking the liberal democratic order” of Germany. This action underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding its democratic principles against extremist threats.
