Boishakhi fair has been organized in Sydney for three decades. For the first time ever, Gangchil Music has etched its identity in this occasion. Sydney’s Bangladeshis have responded well to the arrangement, which carries over the festival vibe.
On Sunday, April 21, a vibrant Boishakhi Mela was held at Sydney’s Wally Park under the banner of Gangchil Music. Tabu Sanjay was in overall management of the fair.
Colourful cultural programs were held throughout the day at the fair. Boishakhi songs were performed after the national anthems of Bangladesh and Australia. Apart from poem reciting, performances by Kishloy Kachikacha, Agamoni Australia and BSPC School were a sight to behold.
Federal Member of Parliament Tony Burke, State Member of Parliament Mark Corey MP, Bangladesh Consul General Md. were present as guests at the fair. Sakhawat Hossain, former member of Parliament Wendy Lindsey, Deputy Mayor Ibrahim Khalil, Councilor Carl Saleh, Councilor Sajeda Akhtar, Councilor Rachel Harika, former Councilor Mohammed Zaman Titu, President of Bangladesh Awami League Australia. Sirajul Haque, Gama Abdul Qadir, union representative Rezwan Chowdhury, Md. Shafiqul Alam, Sultana Akhtar, Iftekhar Uddin etc.
Arshita Adrita, Misha, Absora, Tanaka, Fariha Anjum, Ritupom and others performed the dance. Songs performed by Maria Moon, Nilufar Yasmin, Mithu Sapna and Ratna Kar, Lal Sabuj and Kristi Band.
Nahida Sultana, Sakina Akhtar, Polly Farhad, Jui Sen Pal and Muna Mustafa performed as presenter in different parts of the program.
There are 35 stalls in the fair, including clothing shops, bahari food shops and various types of rides.
Local organizations Energon Australia, Select Auto Care, Light House, BD Travels, Barrier Free Life along with Dream Key Reality and Women’s Council came forward to sponsor the fair.
The organizers announce the date of Boishakhi fair on April 12 next year and wish everyone’s cooperation.
