Starting a new life in Australia is rarely easy. High tuition fees, steep living costs and the daily grind stop many dreams before they begin. Yet within that tough reality, one young Bangladeshi rewrote his destiny from the ground up. His name is Himi Hossain a man who arrived with nothing and is now a recognised entrepreneur across Australia and beyond. His journey proves that determination and hard work can turn even the most impossible path into a success story.
Himi’s Australian chapter began in 1999. After completing his studies, he joined ANZ Bank, steadily climbing the ladder to become an IT Strategy Manager. Twelve years in the corporate world gave him stability, but not fulfilment. Deep inside, he carried a different dream to build something of his own. The question kept returning: Was job security really the final destination?
In 2016, he made the bold decision to resign and start a small business. The beginning was harsh. Financial pressure and uncertainty pushed him to question his choice almost every day. At times, returning to a job seemed like the safer option. But he didn’t stop. Every setback strengthened him. Every obstacle taught him something new. Slowly, the small business grew and from that growth emerged ventures in financial services, migration services, property, construction and more.
Today, his enterprises operate across every Australian state, employing nearly 200 people. His business footprint extends to Fiji, the Philippines and Bangladesh, with plans for further expansion. In 2020, he published his first book, “Fire Your Boss,” which went on to win international awards. Much like his own journey, the book encourages readers to carve their own path and embrace independence.
His connection to Bangladesh remains strong. Around 80 employees now work in his Bangladesh operations, particularly in digital marketing a sector where his teams have earned global recognition. Himi believes Bangladeshis are talented and capable of excelling on the world stage when given the opportunity. He hopes the new generation arriving in Australia will dare to think beyond traditional jobs and embrace entrepreneurship.
Alongside business growth, he is also investing in community development. Though based in Melbourne, he frequently travels to Sydney for work. Recently, he made headlines after purchasing an entire building in Lakemba, a suburb with a large Bangladeshi population. There, he is developing a modern community hub featuring a halal supermarket, real estate office, media unit and other initiatives. In his words, it will be “a place where community, business and culture move forward together.”
Himi Hossain’s story is more than the rise of an entrepreneur. It is the story of an immigrant’s struggle, courage and unwavering belief in his dreams. His journey shows that even from zero, one can go far if they trust themselves and hold on to their vision.
