Fresh Wave of Protests Sweep Iran as Thousands Defy Crackdown

2 min read

Thousands of protesters poured into the streets across Iran on Friday night, only a day after massive demonstrations shook the country. Despite widespread internet shutdowns and severe disruptions to mobile networks, crowds gathered in multiple cities, chanting slogans calling for the end of authoritarian rule.

Large groups assembled in Tehran’s Saadat Abad district, while many others filled Kuds Square. Demonstrators also appeared in Tabriz, showing that the unrest has spread far beyond the capital. Witnesses reported that people continued to arrive even as communication lines were cut, determined to keep the momentum alive.

The scale of Friday’s protests remains difficult to assess fully, especially after the intense violence that erupted the previous night. As of midnight Friday in Iran, demonstrations were still underway.

A widely shared video posted by an account named Navid Mohebbi showed an enormous crowd in Mashhad, Iran’s second largest city. The footage claimed the gathering was so vast that one end of the crowd could not be seen from the other. Mashhad is also the hometown of Ayatollah Khamenei, adding symbolic weight to the unrest.

The persistence of the protests, even under heavy restrictions, signals a deepening public anger and a growing willingness to challenge the country’s leadership.
