France, UK and US Draft UN Resolution for Gaza Stabilization Force

2 min read

France has confirmed it is working with Britain and the United States to finalize a United Nations Security Council resolution that would authorize the creation of an international stabilization force in Gaza. The move comes as a fragile US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas continues to hold, giving space for talks on Gaza’s post-war security.

French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux said the mission must be anchored in international law to ensure legitimacy and encourage contributions from other nations. He noted that discussions with Washington and London are ongoing, with the resolution expected to be presented in the coming days.

Diplomats have indicated the force would not be a traditional UN peacekeeping mission funded by the world body. Instead, it would follow the model used in Haiti, where the Security Council authorized a multinational coalition to “take all necessary measures” to restore order, leaving operational control and funding to the contributing states.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told parliament that the stabilization force will take time to organize, with terms of reference still under discussion. He expressed hope that a Security Council resolution would soon be adopted, though wider details of the mission remain unsettled.

The Trump administration has also confirmed it is in talks with several countries interested in contributing to the force. A White House official said discussions are underway to ensure the resolution secures broad international backing.
