Foundation Laid for New Babri Mosque in West Bengal Amid Tight Security

1 min read

Thirty-three years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, a new mosque bearing the same name is being established in Beldanga, Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The foundation stone was laid on Saturday by Humayun Kabir, a legislator expelled from the Trinamool Congress.

The development has drawn close scrutiny, with the Calcutta High Court directing the West Bengal government to ensure that no communal tension arises. The court ordered authorities to take all necessary steps to maintain peace and prevent unrest.

Security Measures
State Advocate General Kishore Dutta informed the court that adequate police forces have been deployed. Deputy Solicitor General Rajdeep Majumdar confirmed that 19 CISF companies are stationed in the area. Since Friday evening, nearly 3,500 personnel, including RAF units, have been deployed across Rejinagar and surrounding areas.

Additionally, two BSF companies have been placed on standby to secure National Highway 12. Authorities have banned political speeches, party flags, and formal political representation at the event. Kabir is expected to attend with 2,000 volunteers.

Construction Plans
The mosque is expected to take three years to complete, with funding provided by devout members of the Muslim community.
