A Dhaka court on Monday placed former education minister Dipu Moni on a four-day remand in connection with a murder case linked to last year’s student-mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman issued the order after investigating officer Mainul Islam Khan produced her before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

According to case documents, Md Monir Hossain was shot dead during the anti-discrimination student movement at Chankharpul on 5 August last year. His wife, Rozina Akter, later filed a murder case accusing 351 named individuals and around 500 unidentified persons.

In a separate development, the same court ordered that former lawmaker Solaiman Selim be shown as arrested in the case over the killing of Shawon Sikder during the July uprising.

Case records state that Sikder was shot in front of Eden Mohila College and later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A murder case was subsequently filed at Lalbagh Police Station on 21 January.
