Five people have lost their lives in a bomb attack on a school bus in the Khuzdar district of Balochistan province, Pakistan. Yasir Iqbal Dasti, a government official from Khuzdar, reported that thirty-eight others were injured in the incident. The attack took place on Wednesday morning, when a suicide bomber targeted a school-run bus operated by the army.
Yasir Iqbal stated, “The bus belongs to the Army Public School. As it was picking up children, a suicide bomb attack was carried out against the vehicle.”
Pakistan’s military condemned the attack and claimed that “India-backed proxies” were involved. However, no evidence has been provided to support this allegation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned the incident and blamed India for the attack. India has yet to comment on Pakistan’s accusations.
Among the five victims, three are children and two are adults. Authorities have warned that the severity of the blast could result in a higher death toll. Al Jazeera’s reporter Kamal Haider, reporting from Islamabad, mentioned that Pakistan is taking the attack “very seriously.” Usually, Pakistan attributes such attacks to the Baloch Liberation Army, which it accuses of receiving support from India.
In March, members of this group hijacked a train in Balochistan, killing 33 people. The recent attack on the school bus is seen as part of ongoing violence linked to the group, which Pakistan claims is supported by India.
