Leicester City claimed a confident 2-0 win over Birmingham City in the English Championship, securing all three points at the King Power Stadium and ending the visitors’ unbeaten start to the season.
The Foxes took control from the outset, breaking the deadlock in the 8th minute when Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku cut inside and rifled a superb shot into the top corner. Birmingham tried to rally in the second half, but Leicester’s defence, marshalled by Jannik Vestergaard, held firm. The victory was sealed in the 88th minute when Ricardo Pereira latched onto a cross from 16-year-old substitute Jeremy Monga to double the lead.
A key talking point came in the 69th minute when British Bangladeshi midfielder Hamza Dewan Choudhury, who had been strong in possession and made several crucial clearances, went down after a collision. Limping briefly, he was substituted for Pereira. Choudhury had earlier been booked in the first half.
The win marks Leicester’s third in four league matches under new coach Marti Cifuentes, lifting them to third in the table heading into the international break. Birmingham, missing striker Jay Stansfield through injury, suffered their first league defeat of the campaign and now sit seventh.
Fatawu, who has now scored in back-to-back games after an eight-month injury layoff, reassured fans post-match that his late substitution was only due to cramps, not a serious injury. Leicester will resume their campaign away to Oxford United after the break, while Birmingham looks to bounce back at home.
