Actress Ella Anderson says her role in the upcoming biopic Song Sung Blue not only challenged her as a performer but also turned her into a devoted Neil Diamond fan.

Ella Anderson, widely recognized for her work in Henry Danger, The Glass Castle, The Possession of Michael King, and Mother’s Day, recently reflected on her experience filming Song Sung Blue. In the film, she plays Rachel Cartwright, a character woven into the story of a couple who form a Neil Diamond tribute band.

Anderson described the project as one of the most rewarding of her career, particularly because she shared the screen with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, who portray the central couple, Claire and Mike Sardina. “I personally did so much work on my end because as soon as I read the script, I just had a hunger for who this girl is,” she explained, adding that she could sense the same dedication from her co-stars.

The actress admitted that while she always knew of Neil Diamond’s influence, she had never been a regular listener. That changed during filming. “Doing the film, I discovered a lot of great songs of his and he certainly is on my playlist now,” she said, noting how much she grew to love his music and the way it connects people.

The film itself, directed by Craig Brewer, tells the story of Claire and Mike Sardina, who reinvent themselves as the tribute duo Lightning and Thunder in 1987. With little to lose, they pour their lives into performing Diamond’s music, eventually finding success despite personal and health struggles. The narrative follows their rise, their resilience through hardships, and their eventual decline, offering a poignant look at love, ambition, and the cost of fame.

For Anderson, the project was more than just another role. It was an opportunity to immerse herself in a story about passion and perseverance while discovering a new appreciation for one of America’s most iconic singer-songwriters. She said the experience left her not only with professional growth but also with a personal connection to Diamond’s music that she will carry forward.

With its mix of heartfelt storytelling, powerhouse performances, and a soundtrack inspired by Neil Diamond’s timeless hits, Song Sung Blue is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated biographical dramas of the year.
