The introduction of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system at the Padma Bridge is imminent, promising faster and hassle-free passage for commuters. Bangladesh Bridge Authority has signed agreements with three banks and a mobile financial service provider to facilitate this modern toll collection method. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 30, at the Bridge House in the capital.
The event was graced by the Secretary of the Bridge Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Mohammad Abdus Rauf. The agreements were signed with Pubali Bank, Jamuna Bank, Dutch Bangla Bank, and Nagad, a prominent mobile financial service provider.
Speaking at the event, Rauf emphasized that the ETC system aims to ease toll collection on highways, saving time and enhancing service quality. He highlighted that this initiative is not limited to the Padma Bridge but also marks a significant milestone in modernizing toll collection across other key infrastructure such as the Jamuna Bridge, the Karnaphuli Tunnel, and additional bridges.
On behalf of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Director (Finance and Accounts) Khondaker Nurul Hoq signed the agreement. Representatives from the partner institutions included Pubali Bank’s Deputy General Manager Md.
