Elderly Tourist Critically Hurt as Thieves Drive Off With His Caravan

A 76-year-old visitor from the east coast is fighting for his life after being struck by his own vehicle during an audacious robbery in Western Australia’s remote north. The incident unfolded just before 11 am on Saturday at a service station on the Great Northern Highway in Halls Creek, some 2,800 km north of Perth.

Police say the man had parked his Isuzu D-Max ute, which was towing a white caravan bearing South Australian plates. As he inspected the caravan, one or more offenders jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off. In the chaos that followed, the ute rolled back and pinned the tourist, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Bystanders immediately called emergency services. A Royal Flying Doctor Service spokesperson confirmed that the man was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital for urgent treatment. His current condition remains critical.

No suspects have been apprehended, and both the ute and caravan remain missing. Halls Creek Police Station is urging anyone who witnessed the theft or captured it on dash-cam to come forward. Those with information are asked to contact Crime Stoppers to help piece together how this daring daylight heist unfolded.
