The Election Commission has announced that adjustments will be made to the boundaries of 39 out of the 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country. This move is part of a process to redraw constituency lines based on recent analyses, updated population data, and geographic considerations.
Speaking at a press conference, EC Secretary Md. Anwarul Islam said that a technical committee, comprising experts, has recommended the boundary changes. According to the recommendations, one additional seat will be created in Gazipur, while one seat in Bagerhat will be reduced.
He added that the law emphasizes factors such as administrative management, geographic integrity, and census data for boundary determination. However, some issues remain to be updated based on the 2022 census. The committee calculated an average of approximately 4.2 lakh voters per constituency and graded districts accordingly, identifying where voter populations are highest and lowest. Based on this, the proposal includes increasing one seat in districts with the largest voter count and decreasing one in districts with fewer voters.
