Durga Puja, the biggest religious event of Bengali Hindus in Australia has officially concluded. Once upon a time, the expatriates here had an unknown fear of retaining their culture. But Durga Puja is now observed by the Bengali-speaking community living in Australia with great enthusiasm and presence of all the rituals.
In the morning puja-archana and distribution of prasad; From evening to midnight, there are cultural programs, aarti with drumming dancing, and singing, expatriates get back the feeling of the festival of the country.
This traditional arrangement can be seen in all metro cities including Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne. In Western Australia, separate pujas were organized by the initiative of Bangladeshis. The organization of BSPCI in Perth was a sight to behold. Under the leadership of President Prabir Sarkar and Sharmishta Saha, all activities of the puja were carried forward through teamwork.
More than twenty organizations organized pujas in Sydney, including the Agomoni organization.
Each venue has cultural additions; Local artists including the new generation of children growing up in the diaspora participated in it. Bengali songs, plays, dances, and other events are seen. Guests invited to the puja are entertained with pitha, puli, naru, luchi, and other local dishes. Local government representatives from various cities are also on the guest list.
Organized by ‘Trinayani’, the two-day-long Durga Puja was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Devout Hindus danced to the beat of the song. Bringing out the familiar atmosphere of Puja.
The grandeur of Durga Puja in autumn encourages Bangladeshi traditionalists to cherish the country’s atmosphere, which has the full support of the Australian government. All in all, the zeal of the puja in the diaspora seems to be increasing.
