The vote count in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JACSU) election has taken a dramatic turn. After trailing across ten consecutive centres, Riajul Islam, the VP candidate backed by the Shibir-supported panel, has regained the lead. Candidates from the same panel are also ahead in the GS and AGS races.
On Wednesday (7 January), at around 6:30 pm, results from the 25th centre, under the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, were announced and that changed the scenario. In this centre alone, Riajul secured 80 more votes than AKM Rakib, the VP candidate supported by the Chhatra Dal-backed panel.
Earlier, after counting votes from 20 centres, Rakib, the VP candidate from the ‘Oikkoboddho Nirbhik Jobian’ panel, was in front. However, once results from the next five centres were added, that lead disappeared and Riajul moved ahead.
