Donnarumma Set for Manchester City Switch on Deadline Day

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is poised to join Manchester City after national coach Gennaro Gattuso confirmed the move is set to be completed on transfer deadline day.

Speaking on Monday, Gattuso revealed that the 26-year-old will undergo a medical before signing his contract with the Premier League champions. The deal, reportedly worth €35 million, will see Donnarumma leave Paris Saint-Germain, where he has fallen down the pecking order following the summer arrival of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

Donnarumma was instrumental in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season, but coach Luis Enrique has made it clear that Chevalier will be his first-choice option. The shift has opened the door for the Italian to seek a new challenge in England.

Initially, it was thought that a move to City would only happen if long-time No. 1 Ederson departed. However, fresh reports indicate that an agreement has been reached regardless, paving the way for Donnarumma’s arrival.

City signed James Trafford from Burnley earlier in the summer, and the 22-year-old has started all three of their league matches so far. But with the young keeper yet to fully convince, Pep Guardiola appears ready to hand the gloves to one of Europe’s most decorated shot-stoppers.
