In response to the increasing incidents of mugging in the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have been analyzing criminal databases to identify various gangs involved in these crimes. Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam of the Detective Branch (DB) confirmed that operations against these identified gangs are ongoing.

Nasirul Islam stated, “By reviewing the criminal database, we have identified several mugging gangs. The DB and local police are conducting operations in different areas of the capital to apprehend these criminals.” He highlighted the significant successes of anti-mugging operations over the past three months, with 98 arrests in October, 148 in November, and 564 in December. Additionally, 374 individuals were detained in the first eleven days of January.

To prevent mugging, the DMP has increased the number of checkpoints, patrols, and intelligence surveillance. Nasirul Islam emphasized, “When these criminals are brought to justice and imprisoned, their activities will decrease. We aim to free the city residents from crime.”

These measures are part of a broader effort to enhance public safety and maintain law and order in Dhaka
