Dhaka police chief urges vigilance; Chattogram DB solves Hasan Tareq murder after one year

2 min read

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has called on city residents to remain alert and cautious in light of ongoing security concerns. Speaking at a press conference on November 11 at the DMP Media Centre, he warned citizens against sheltering strangers and stressed the need to verify identities before renting out motorcycles or vehicles, to prevent them from falling into the hands of criminals. His remarks highlight the police’s focus on community cooperation to maintain law and order in the capital.

Key Points from DMP Commissioner’s Warning

  • No shelter for strangers: Residents must avoid giving refuge to unknown individuals.
  • Vehicle rentals under scrutiny: Motorcycles and other vehicles should only be rented after proper verification.
  • Public vigilance: Sajjat Ali emphasized that community awareness is crucial to preventing criminal activity in Dhaka.

Chattogram Murder Case Solved

In a separate development, Chattogram Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police announced a breakthrough in the Hasan Tareq murder case, which had remained unsolved for a year.

  • On November 10, police arrested Mohammad Alauddin alias Alo (41), a known drug dealer, from the Dampara area under Chawkbazar police station.
  • DB West Zone Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahbub Alam Khan revealed that after the killing, the victim’s body was placed in an auto-rickshaw and dumped near Rasmoni Ghat in Khejurtoli, under Pahartali police station, via Kalushah Mazar.
  • The arrest marks a significant step in resolving a case that had troubled investigators and the victim’s family for over a year.

Broader Context

These two developments underscore the dual challenges facing Bangladeshi law enforcement:

  • In Dhaka, police are focused on preventive measures and public cooperation to counter rising threats.
  • In Chattogram, detectives continue to tackle serious crimes linked to drug networks, which often involve violence and concealment.

The DMP commissioner’s warning reflects growing concerns about urban security risks, while the DB’s success in solving the Hasan Tareq case demonstrates the persistence of investigators in bringing perpetrators to justice. Together, they highlight the ongoing struggle to maintain law and order across Bangladesh’s major cities.
