Dhaka Metro Extends Hours to Meet Rising Demand

1 min read

The Uttara-Motijheel metro rail service in Dhaka will run an hour longer each day from Friday on a trial basis to cater to growing passenger numbers.

Under the revised timetable, trains will start 30 minutes earlier in the morning and finish 30 minutes later at night. Managing Director Faruque Ahmed said the change was made possible after overcoming earlier manpower shortages.

“We’re now ready to expand both train numbers and operating hours. This will help us serve more passengers, boost revenue, cut waiting times and ease road traffic,” he said. Peak-hour intervals will drop from six minutes to 4.25 minutes, improving frequency.

The first train from Uttara will depart at 6:40 a.m., with the last at 9:30 p.m. From Motijheel, services will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 10:10 p.m., offering commuters more flexibility and faster journeys.
