The government has further relaxed curfew in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Ghazipur, and Narsingdi from 7 am to 6 pm for three days starting Sunday.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan announced the decision after a meeting with senior law enforcement and intelligence officials on Saturday night. “The situation is gradually improving. Everything is returning to normal. “The curfew will be lifted once the national situation is fully restored,” he said.
He also said those who called for protests against quota reforms and those who turned the movement into violent clashes would have to be held accountable for the death of a police officer due to violence, according to a report by bdnews24.com. The minister urged protesters to withdraw their new plans, “otherwise they will not be able to escape responsibility for the violence.”
Asaduzzaman said five protest leaders who were detained “for their safety” were providing information and names. “We are in the process of verifying this information,” he said.
