Dhaka Court Orders My TV Chairman Shown Arrested in Coercion Case

A Dhaka court has ordered Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of private television channel My TV, to be shown as arrested in a case filed over allegations of coercion and threats against a female employee.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed the order on Wednesday, rejecting Sathi’s bail petition. State prosecutor Md Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the ruling, saying it came in response to a petition filed by the complainant.

The case was originally filed in 2024 with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka by employee Turjo Rezaul Kotha, who accused Sathi and six others of abuse and intimidation.

According to case documents, Kotha was sent on a work trip to the United States on 19 January last year. Upon her return, Sathi allegedly summoned her to his office, made an indecent proposal, and attempted to rape her when she refused. The complaint further alleges that Sathi and others then assaulted her, issued death threats, and forced her to sign 98 blank cheques and nine non-judicial stamps.

Sathi was previously arrested on 17 August in Dhaka’s Gulshan area and placed on a five-day remand in connection with a separate murder case linked to the July Uprising.
