A Dhaka court on Monday ordered a five-day remand for content creator Tawhid Afridi, son of MyTV chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi, in connection with the killing of Asadul Haque Babu during last year’s anti-discrimination protests in the city’s Jatrabari area.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haq issued the order after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) brought Afridi before the court and sought his remand for questioning. Afridi was arrested in Barishal on Sunday and transported to Dhaka for the hearing.
The case stems from an August 5, 2024, rally where Babu, 24, was shot in the chest and leg. He later died in hospital. His father filed a murder case naming 25 accused, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Afridi, and his father.
Nasir Uddin Sathi was arrested earlier this month and is also facing charges in the same case.
