Dhaka Court Grants Five-Day Remand to Two Suspects in Businessman’s Murder

A Dhaka court has approved five-day remand for each of two youths arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman outside Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, popularly known as Mitford Hospital. The accused, Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, and Tarek Rahman Robin, 22, were detained shortly after the incident.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman confirmed the remand. Earlier, police arrested the two with weapons at the scene, and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) later detained two more suspects linked to the case.

The attack happened on July 9 (Wednesday) afternoon when a group of assailants brutally attacked 39-year-old Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, on the pavement in front of Gate-3 of the hospital, leading to his death. Police from Kotwali Police Station responded swiftly, controlling the situation, and later sent the victim’s body to the morgue for autopsy.

Following the incident, the victim’s elder sister filed a murder case at Kotwali Police Station. Authorities collected CCTV footage and conducted raids across Dhaka, resulting in the arrest of Mohin and Robin. During Robin’s arrest, police recovered a foreign-made pistol.

Initial investigations suggest the murder stemmed from a business dispute and prior enmity. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend other suspects and uncover the full motive behind the killing. Legal proceedings against the suspects are ongoing.
